This SONG is has no placeable genre - it's something else. So funny to hear these heavy funk/club centric/disco bravado diva DJs just call it cheap squeaking, but it's pretty divine in my book. Village of Love by Nathaniel Mayer gets close to what Nolan Strong and the Diabolos did, but this is not gritty. And it's not quite a ballad. It kills me to see people yawn and squirm, turn with some scary offensive faces when I play it out just for myself and a few other fans. I had the pleasure of DJing in NYC with a good friend of mine whose knowledge of music history is so vast/intimidating, that I don't even ask questions, we just spin and it's great. It was such a rare treat to just throw this on and hear voices telling me to, "turn that up, Loud. Louder!"
