The album is obviously a classic but unfortunately the packaging and pressing quality wasn't really up to par. This double disc collection is clearly too bulky for this standard record sleeve so it wasn't surprising when my album arrived with split inner sleeves. Though that isn't a cause for me to request a refund it's still frustrating to see such a lack of regard in packaging and handling. The inner sleeves themselves were a tight glossy card stock which would probably scuff the hell out of the record with repeated removal. So my first priority was to switch the records into poly sleeves as soon as possible. The pressing itself was surprisingly quiet. This is surprising because the full album is split across 2 LPs with typically no more than 3 tracks on each side. They had more than enough room to cut deeper and wider grooves but instead chose to master the album tightly with more than 4 inches of dead wax on each vinyl album. It's just a real lost opportunity and a lack of due dilligence. The volume level becomes problematic as left over glossy paper shavings can be heard creating a noticeable noise floor of pop and cracks that only become more noticeable the higher you raise the volume. If you're not good about keeping your records clean I would stay clear of this pressing.Sonically, though the pressing isn't horrible and is still a far better representation of the album than the digital version. The bass has a deep but muddled presence and the dynamic range is far more pronounced and immersive. I don't know the recorded dynamic range of this release but the 2002 vinyl has a known dynamic range score of 11 compared to the dynamic range score of 8 for the digital release. So though, I'm critical of this pressing, I'm still content with the purchase and will probably keep this on hand as my go to listening copy.
