A big one for USA RCA-Victor (and sadly not listed here!) This was RCA-Victor's first LIVING STEREO 7" 45Other Living Stereo gems include:-The Isley Brothers Shout (parts 1 & 2)Elvis P. "Stuck On You"Elvis P. "It's Now Or Never"There is a new book due soon on the "smooth" Mr C. from studio people and TV people who had to work with him!Como was Mr Nasty not Mr Nice, he was a violent drunk, aggressive, hot tempered and would use his fists. Can't wait!Catch a Fallen Star I guess, he was apparently the in-joke and curse at NBC, session guys refused to work with him. Would make a great movie!

It's not for lacking of trying, but musical genre-hopping has seldom worked out from my listening. When popsters of the '40s and '50s were being pushed aside by rock and roll, it was inevitable that they would try the new thing. I'm sure you have your own horror examples; mine is Vaughn Monroe's "Black denim trousers and motorcycle boots." So when Perry Como, of all people, hopped on board the pop rock train, it looked like de-rail ahead. But "Love makes the world go 'round" isn't terrible. In this case, faint praise is praise indeed. Why didn't I hate it? I think that what makes it O. K. is that Perry doesn't change his vocal style at all. It just the instrumental backing and the vocal chorus that changes. It seems simple and obvious, but loads of Perry's contemporaries couldn't bring it off. "Mandolins" is a Euro-centric song written by Aaron Schroeder and George David Weiss who both wrote for Elvis around the same time (c.1960) leading me to wonder if it was written with Elvis in mind, but rejected. There's something of "Wooden heart" about it. Perry sings it straight (of course).
