File this one alongside Robert Rental's virtually simultaneous release from 1978 Robert Rental - ParalysisLeer's single is more commercial and accessible, Rental's is darker, more sinister, more abstract. Both are brilliant examples of synth-pop late '70s post-punk style (the numero uno release in the genre is still probably The Normal's TVOD/Warm Leatherette imo).Leer and Rental collaborated on the 1979 album Thomas Leer & Robert Rental - The Bridge which has good moments but always seemed underwhelming to me. I sold my original copy for pennies sometime in the '90s and then bought a copy back about 5 years ago. Sadly it's very crackly but it doesn't really matter as I still don't rate it that highly for some reason.Leer went on to make many more records but none as good as this imo (he even re-made Thomas Leer - International as more commercial synth-pop in 1984).Rental sadly died in 2000.
