In the European version of International Standard Luxury Remixes, the Fantastic Plastic Machine get taken to task by Tanimoody, Andreas Dorau, Dauerfisch, and the Maxwell Implosion. Tanimoody distills “There Must Be an Angel (Playing With My Heart)” into a Brazilian-tinged minor key stomper, with the vocals drifting above. “You Must Learn All Night Long,” redone by Dauerfisch, takes out the original’s clattering percussion and goes for a more straightforward bouncer (complete with vocoder). “MPF” gets the full funk rework by The Maxwell Implosion. But the track that makes this remix EP a winner is the Andreas Dorau mix of “Lotto.” With its house beat, delicately plucked guitar, wobbly synths and quiet vocals, it’s proof that you can spin straw into gold.
