4th full length album from this band out of Spain; their name references the virgin patron saint of their hometown. They play mind-blowing Spaghetti-Western blues with twanged-out, reverberating guitar notes that hang in the air like a cowboy’s undulating lariat. The lead guitar is raw, crazed and ass-kickin’ good, with a Southwestern desert/garage flair, pulsating hang-ten surf notes and fluid ethno-psychedelic twists. Pedro de Dios Barcelo’s vocals deliver the lyrics in the original Spanish language, riding a Jeffrey Lee Pierce edge of sanity. You’re equally likely to encounter Chicago boogie/shuffle jump blues or manic, acid-infected distorted riffs. Sometimes recalls bands like Gun Club, The Entrance Band, The Ventures, Dommengang, Black Sun Ensemble, John Lee Hooker, Left Lane Cruiser. “Guadalupe Plata 2017” is a uniquely twisted treat for lovers of primal garage blues experimentation. Recommended.
