It’s clear from “Return of the Anunnaki” that Soy Mustafa has an intuitive knack for crafting melodic, moody techno. The original version features a spiky, lithe rhythm, but it’s the musical elements that really impress.As the track progresses, Mustafa adds in layered chords and a foreboding synth that hangs in the air over the arrangement, with eerie strings adding to the sense of musical menace. Chymera delivers a squelchy acidic take that focuses on the chord sequences, while both of John Tejada’s remixes serve as a reminder that Mustafa has learnt a lot from the LA producer.
