Following the hugely successful releases of Million Miles Away (ITWT 395-0), Vanilla Sky (ITWT 398-0), and Ray Of Light (ITWT 412-0), Thomas Blum seemingly can't write songs quick enough for the demand. Yet his third In Trance We Trust EP of 2008 contains a vocal track, which is something new for him since releasing on this particular label. The EP has three tracks: Carpe Diem has a vocal mix and an instrumental mix, and there is also an extra track called Pictures, which is actually the real gem here. I do not think much of either mix of Carpe Diem. The vocals were unnecessary and feel as though they were just added for the sake of it. Other recent vocal tracks on this label, such as Airbase - Denial (ITWT 419-0) and Alex Kunnari - Breathe In (ITWT 425-0) sound more natural and less forced. The instrumental version of Carpe Diem is nothing special, just a nice piece of relaxing trance. A repetitive melody remains constant throughout, with erratic high notes scattered around. Pictures takes its lead from Carpe Diem in the sense that a relaxing melody is present throughout without much change in tempo, but the difference with Pictures is that the melody is an interesting one and immediately causes the listener to tap feet. The main breakdown occurs at 3.30 and one can notice a string melody in the undercurrent almost guiding the electronica along. This creates a nice harmony and provides the listener with an enjoyable track that is not plagued by vocals.
