Apparently I am a Petula Clark Fan, or at least a fan of her producer/arranger Tony Hatch, because I really liked this garage sale find. I bought it cheap because I recognized some of the singles on it and discovered a rockin' pleasant surprise. It starts off with her doing a version of "Dancing in the streets" that sounds like she hired an entire college marching band to play behind her. I know that this is from the same era as the Phil Spector Wall of Sound and they were competing with him on artists interpreting some of the same songs, but this back up band really brought the noise. Most of the songs here are performed well by Petula, but it can't be stressed enough how fun her back up group sounds like they are having. Each instrument is almost in a race to the end, trying to out "rock" each other. The songs selected are well suited for the artists and are produced extremely well. I usually like the Mono versions of records, but the stereo separation serves the feel of this music well on the LP. It ends on an escalating high note with the 1-2-3 punch of "Call me"-"Going out of my Head"- and the classic "I know a place." Great Album to pick up if you see it!
