Tyler Is Not Here
Ordered the red edition from Thrill Jockey, it shipped from their London distributor. Nice looking package, and fabulous music, but record is slightly warped, and the sound quality and pressing is very poor. Lots of surface noise and clicks, low audio level, muffled sound overall (like listening to a 4th generation cassette copy from the 80's). Feel like I have wasted my money. Not recommended.

My copy sounded good to me. Really nice album front to back. Solid set of songs.

Picked up a black vinyl copy at my local record shop (Up the Creek Records in Walnut Creek, CA). I was worried after reading the comments here, but my copy sounds good, does not suffer from excessive surface noise. The mix on this LP demands a higher volume level to truly appreciate their blend of droning psychedelic bliss. This is an excellent record with songs that stay with you after they've blown your mind.

Great album. I think there must be only be a 100 issued on butter lavender and it's much rarer than the white indie version. I pre-ordered this from Rough Trade and they only had 10's of them ordered from the distributor, but RT cancelled as Thrill Jockey couldn't honour the orders. I had to shop around to get one for a decent price in the UK

Cheers for this, I ordered the butter one and found it to be lavender instead although on the back cover there is a sticker that says limted butter colour!. I had wondered if this was a mispress but this clears it up! Much appreciated!

Just got my copy of the 'butter' edition in the post, but on checking to see what colour it is, it's actually purple. Anybody else got one of these? Is this actually the 'lavender butter' edition, and if so why is that version described here as blue/white swirl? (Haven't had a chance to check the pressing quality etc yet but will report back later.)

Check the listings, it appears there is a limited lavender release of around 100 copies!

Hmm yes, looks like there might've been a cock-up at the pressing plant. Though I do like the purple colour myself. My copy has a bit of noise on the right hand channel during track A1, not serious but vaguely annoying, and a loud-ish pop midway through track B2, but other than that it's a decent pressing. Not amazing, but not bad either. Love the actual music, though.

My copy has just arrived, 'butter edition' on a stick on label but it is definitely a purple berry colour! Is this a diluted press of the red opague or a stand alone purple colour? can anyone who has the red opague release please add an image to help confirm? Cheers

Wooden Shjips have slowed things down for this album, but it's no bad thing, in fact it's great! all the trademark rhythms and beats are in place and from the first sound you know who you're listening to. This could be the start of something very good indeed, there is even a Nik Turner style sounding sax on a few tracks, excellent stuff all round.

Anyone else had a problems with this pressing? The first copy I bought sounded terrible, loads of surface noise (not static) and a weird distortion on the high frequencies (particularly noticeable on tracks A2 and A4). Second copy had similar issues only not so bad. Before anyone asks, yes I have checked all of my audio equipment and have done comparisons with other needles, turntables, amps and vinyl etc.

is yours the black one?confused - which are the ones to avoid?

Have the same problem with the white Vinyl version. Pressing Quality is very poor. I will not buy another copy.

With the star filled nights of summer just around the corner, like satellites drifting effortlessly across the velvet sky, Wooden Shjips have drifted in with their most sustained luscious and intoxicating album V. It’s an album that morphs and unfolds ever so gently, impossible to grasp in its ethereal nature, like remembering the Summer of Love in all of its beauty and splendor. It would be easy to say that V. is just one more in a series of albums from the band, though this delivery is lightyears apart from anything you’ve heard before, filled with a sense of blissed out space and expansion, a swirling musical landscape that draws the listener in ever more deeply, wrapping them in warm blankets embroidered with planets, fauna and haunting mystical imagery, sonically bringing to mind Lou Reed’s “Walk On The Wild Side,” where Wooden Ships take us on a narrative voyage not out past Saturn this time, but rather sustaining a presence of place and time, right there in your backyard. V. is not beat-driven, the album is very human in nature, both serious and playful at times, laced with riffs that don’t carry you anywhere, but effortlessly nudge you forward and back, seeming like a conversation just out of earshot that you dearly want to discern, yet in the end, give up and simply let the boys spirit you where they will. And not surprisingly there’s also a more concerted effort at layering the music in order to create that drift of body temperature currents and calming interplay.Without a doubt, V. is a wayward couch-bound stoner’s delight that makes no demands, yet offers to take you wherever you and who’s laying head on your shoulder, wish to go. Though perhaps Wooden Ships do have a vision on their horizon, a place somewhere in the future, about seventy miles west of here, where it’s lighter, and V. is a postcard from that place with sky-blue skies … all I know is that I’ve been there, and I promise you, it’s a delightful adventure.Sound quality of my light blue and white swill vinyl is excellent.Download Card only allows for 320 bitrate ...Review by Jenell Kesler

Warning: the black vinyl version has the same printed-on-sleeve barcode as the red version, so if you want red, the seller needs to check the color or verify there's a sticker on the shrink indicating it is red.
