"I came up with the project more than two years ago.
After a few years of composing music alone, I realized that, even in a fully equipped studio, I could not find any valuable source of inspiration. It was mostly during various trips or highly emotional moments that the best things emerged.
A Journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway would finally provide me with the ideal conditions for writing music : the cramped confinement of my cabin, the travel length (as long as 160 hours), the fact that I could use my electronic equipment, the discovery of another culture and a new type of music, nearly 6.000 miles of landscape as well as the opportunity of meeting people.
I left in May 2015 to travel for a little more than two weeks, with a small video crew in order to document my project, and carrying a suitcase packed with all my equipments. Along the Trans-Siberian route, I made stopovers and spent generally two days in each town or village, meeting all sorts of people, exploring the area, recording many sounds and then got back on the train for two days, doing nothing else but compose music.
During my stays, I had the opportunity to record many traditional songs of various kinds and backgrounds.
Those became the material for several of my music pieces. Likewise, the continuous rolling of the train quickly became a part of my music writing, willingly or not, giving birth to unexpected and new songs.
Originally, I had planned to create five or six pieces of music, yet finally came back with more than a dozen demos which I finalized in a studio in the two months after I got back. This led to the creation of an album."
Many thanks to all the people in Russia that took some time with me, and share their music or just a moment.
And of course a huge THANK YOU to the team that worked hard with me and transformed this crazy idea into something real.
