Notes

'The sounds used on this CD are recordings taken directly from the NASA Voyager I & II Space Probes as they passed near different planetary and moon bodies within our solar system. ... Each "instrument" you hear on this CD is actually the recording of a Voyager planet recording compressed electronically down to its fundamental harmonic frequency. At this range, the space recordings sound like unique musical instruments.'

The prominent instrument you hear on this CD is synthesizer and it plays melodies. There are interludes where "real" space sounds can be heard. I expected something more raw.

Incorrect. Deeper analysis shows that these are not in fact synthesizers but FILTERED space recordings of acoustic ion microphones that have been PROCESSED "down to the fundamental frequencies". You can hear the difference in the texture/tone of the sounds. You can verify by zooming up in a high-resolution FFT frequency display. The sounds are very analog in character and the harmonics are unpredictable while a synthesizer has harmonics that are predictable and have patterns that are obvious in a spectrum display. If you want something raw listen to the ORIGINAL NASA recordings... This is the best compilation of space sounds ARRANGED to be melodic and all the melodies and notes you hear are not human but simply filtered to sound like musical instruments. It is still raw. Consider the sounds you hear to be hidden by all the noise in the original recordings. I think Dr. Thompson fell upon this by accident. I wouldn't have discovered this music behind all the noise. All the audio in this IS space sound.
