Niko, with her debut LIFE ON EARTH, bursts into life with the funk of "You're My Favourite Music," her vocals powering through the beats and the organ, while "Shifting" puts her more in house territory. Mark Rae turns "Swamp" into a funk stomp, while Aim offers up melodic hip-hop with "Roam" and "All I Do" (though it's "Don't Waste Your Time" that has that ineffable, atmospheric quality.) And if you were to suggest that the Mr. Scruff-produced "An Echo Of Quiet And Green" sounds exactly like a jazz-sampling Mr. Scruff track, well, you'd be right (more smoky jazz can be found on "Siren"). "Let Me Go" offers up slightly harder hip-hop, though its tempered by the funk horns and strings, and "Love You to Pieces" ends the album on a romantic note, though not without the beats. A strong showing from this vocalist.
