Robert Babicz asks you to wait for a MOMENTE as he calibrates his machines on "Eingang Durch Das Portal (Der Nachtportier)." The experimental electronics there continues on into the quivering, icy "Willkommen An Meiner Bar," which carries a slight hint of acid in its veins, though the granular "Gebettet In Formung" dispenses with that entirely. "Diese Einsame Gestalt" continues with the abstract composition, bringing in moments of twitchiness, whereas the longer "Furcht/Lippenbekenntnisse" gurgles with ice at its start before lingering on the string sounds. "Schwarm Papierflieger" leans towards some Tim Hecker-like refractions, while "Dom Am Horizont" leans into the long, moody tones. "Fadenlos Am Himmel" pulses quietly and "Magengegend/Schlaflos" brings in squelches and gurgles to punctuate the piece. And the final track, "Mein Ausblick," revels in the quiet low tones until it finally decides to ring out. A complex and intriguing work.

Renowned for slaying dancefloors worldwide with his creative vision of techno and the TB-303 (Rob Acid, Origin, Sontec), MoMente is a crass contrast to the Robert Babicz we've gotten to know over the years. Instead of taking his knowledge of the silver box into the realm of downtempo experiments as one might expect, the listener is plunged into a dark, abstract abyss, full of droning, metallic sounds and rattling noises that'll make your mind itch. Certainly not for the impatient, even the most avid Rob Acid-heads will have trouble connecting to this. Still, a good amount of spins in the cd player will ultimately prove rewarding for those patient enough. There are some mindboggling contrasts and soundworks (my personal highlight Furcht / Lippenbekentnisse is a great example of this) to be found within this album if you only listen carefully enough. To sum it up, MoMente is an excellent display of Robert's will to experiment, and a solid contribution to Mille Plateaux's wonderful world of abstractness. Great tracktitles, too.
