If someone in 1991 had asked me what type of music this was I would have said it's Hard House with Hip Hop beats... The term Hardcore wasn't something that really existed until the musical press probably got a hold of it and then threw the term back at us..It's like in 1989 we didn't call our selves ravers. We just went to Acid House parties!Anyway this is a blinding 4 tracker that I got from Passion Records Oxford Street London back in 91.Simple Dreams is a Euro Techno type affair and great it is too! First heard it aired on Colin Favors Kiss Fm show. It' still a great track today in 2017!Tuff To Chase is a full on Techno stomper with classic sounding piano and basslines of 89 house.. But with a twist! It doesn't do much but then again why should it! It chugs along nicely and was great to dance too!The other two tracks get more on the Break Beat tip and they give you an indication of what was fastly approaching.. Jungle Techno (Why that isn't a genre on discogs I will never really know and probably will never care?)Shout For Joy rocks with some nice atmospheric synths and breakbeats..The Leaders attacks with a harder level of sounds! Think Magus Project-Shoss! Too many people get obsessed by Piano rave, Hardcore ,Darkside 93 and Jungle these days! 1991 should never be put aside mistakenly or intentionally!A very foundational year indeedy! Peace!

asdfs any other 91 proto-jungle techno ("hardcore") you'd recommend with this hip hop style sampling? Which track, in particular, you referring to?

Yeah, that term got used by the Hip Hop crews (which I was apart of) because of the ultimate breaks and beats compilations..

Re: Blapps etc. circa 90...we called them 'breakbeats' down South West...well I did anyway.

Nope, I'm not but I hear its nice this time of year! And I know Hardcore was a term used around 91 but it still didn't really become a style term until 92 got underway. And I still stick to my guns when our crew didn't call ourselves ravers. P.s. I'm from Buckinghamshire originally so very close to North London ..Peace ;)

in 89 all north london talked about was raves...and the term hardcore was about in 91...where you from?outer hebrides....
