Notes

Music released via a video game developed by NHX with the band, Capsule Silence XXIV. The band leaked a supposed demo build of the game, citing disputes with the developers. The build's main level renders unplayable, but a sandbox test level can be accessed. Via this level, the player finds cassette tapes with new songs (each labeled with its composer), and after finding enough, has the option to export one into MP3, which gives a download link to it and crashes the level. All the MP3s can be browsed by going to the folder where the selected file is hosted. Also included in the files, and linked in the game, is a music video for the Endless Fantasy track "Japan Air" ("Japan Air - jan 24")

All songs are sorted in various folders, represented here by headers, and only a few have track numbers attached to them, so they've been organized here as they're displayed on the page's file index.

Capsule Silence XXIV is... well... It's a thing. I've been listening to Anamanaguchi since they were releasing tunes on 8BitCollective. Power Supply and Dawn Metropolis were FANTASTIC albums. Scott Pilgrim was really good, and the summer of singles stuff blew my head off, but Endless Fantasy seemed to be the real tipping point. About a third of EF was really good, like the first two releases, while the rest was modernized, with a lack of the guitar, drums and bass that the previous albums had. When they released that Pop It single, I knew they had changed permanently. Poppy, super processed, top-40s material. I was really hoping that it'd be that one weird one, ya know? That one track that didn't fit in anywhere, just kinda was meh. This collection seems to be the final nail in the coffin. They've gone past the tipping point into that terrible, millennial, nostalgia-driven electronica category that people seem to crave. Lots of shimmering chords, DX-7 keys, and super saturated drums with a healthy dose of that ever popular sidechaining compression that punches the kick drum straight through the mix. I'm sorry to say, but this release did all the wrong things to me. Of course there are a few good cuts on here. Lilo (Ft. Lindsay Lowend) was alright, good chords and good structure. It's like Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, good if you take a step from the Daft Punk sound and admire it for what it is, but let's face it, RAM was no Discovery. This could all just be artists branching out and finding their groove, it could be B-sides, it could be a specifically crafted soundtrack exclusively for a video game. I'm not about to rag on em for going a new direction, all I'm saying is this release is a FAR CRY from what they started doing. It's no longer the super potent NES rock I fell in love with, and I'm not about to lie about hating it. I hate it. It's awful. But at the end of the day, it's their music.
