I just acquired this as a used CD after being reminded of just how brilliant Steve Pickton could be through a re-rememberance of Statis "Point of No Return" (a shame this never got released on vinyl!)This is definitely top-shelf IDM from the 90's that manages to avoid most of the cliches of the genre. Despite starting off a little slow (the first three tracks are, while not awful, fairly forgettable slightly jazzy downtempo numbers that sound like middle-of-the-road mid 90's Ninja Tune output) the record really picks up with the spine-tingling "123146" and it hardly lets up. "Blue Light" almost threatens to be a forgettable "floor banger" but really evolves into a nice moody Detroit style techno track. Overall, a very nice solid release that has stood the test of time and will undoubtedly take you to that special place in your mind on at least a couple of occasions throughout its playing if you're into this sort of thing!
