SARAND
Unlike most D&B mixes proliferating the Y2K scene when breakbeat, jungle, hard house, tech house, hardstyle/acid trance all contributed to a peak of electronica activity, this DnB mix CD by DJ DB offers a more dynamic, wide-angle overview of impressive tracks and artists. Whereas most other D&B mixes tend to focus on dark futuristic atmosphere with hard edge, DJ DB presents a more well-rounded, multi-faceted take on the genre; more mass-appeal in a good, correct way. As opposed to very narrow parameters of typically known DnB style, DJ DB is adventurous and unafraid to showcase tracks that add elements from other electronica sub-genres into the mix such as house, jungle, proto-hardhop, etc., without diluting the overall characteristics of DnB. Definitely recalling some of the best offerings from the Sub-Base label, or other forward-thinking techno labels such Subliminal, etc.An engaging thought-provoking mix, worthwhile to possibly cause listeners to rethink towards the positive what DnB is all about.

DB is one of the most important figures in the US DnB world. this cd is another example of this. but this man does so much more than just mixing up records. having been responsible for at least 4 record labels so far, and co-founding the first all DnB record shop in the US, not to mention the legendary NASA parties it's easy to understand his importance. his opinion is undeniably strong and his vibe just as undeniably infectious. peace!

Easily one of the best dnb mixes ever. Incredible range, and classy mixing. Hits hard, and cools down really soft. Track selection is money. That said, db is a bit of a meglamaniac. He thinks he owns drum n bass or something. He's always giving speeches in his album inlays on how dnb has gotten away from it's roots, or it's not going in the direction it was intended to......whatever. If you can let go of db's egotistical attitude, it's easier to enjoy his music. I listen to dnb for the music, not for the political agenda of the artist.

I have to mention that he's anything but a megalomaniac in person. I've met him at a cozy show and got to speak to him a bit, he's really nice, and even a bit self deprecating in that he never records his live mixes due to considering them 'not good enough' (mind you he rips it up live to the point that I enjoyed his live mix better than any of the studio mixes I've heard of his, and I own all of them.) - Kodiak
