Super8 & Tab’s shift in musical direction began in 2006 with two classy productions, both of which harnessed echoey vocals from Ben Lost. ‘Needs to Feel’ is the second of these productions and shares many similarities with its predecessor, ‘Won’t Sleep Tonight’. As before, the sound is meaty and club-friendly, epitomised in particular by the thick, heavy groove that underpins it. But the contrast in terms of the vocals could not be more different; on ‘Needs To Feel’, Ben Lost’s vocals are more sensual and yearning in style (“she, she, needs to feel you” to quote the lyric from the track) and this fits in perfectly with the feel of the production as a whole. I have yet to decide which of the two tracks I prefer, but one cannot help but become a major fan of them both.
