Still selling for face value on Red Eye, don't buy from the sharks until you have to!https://www.redeyerecords.co.uk/vinyl/73470-fj1203-mori-ra-oriental-forest

Am I the only one finding it weird that this is marketed as if it's Mori-Ra's music? It's one thing not to clear rights, I can understand it's not always easy to do so for smaller labels but then at least don't call it a "release" or an "EP" "produced by" Mori-Ra and with his name in big letters on the front? These just cut and paste edits of expensive originals, right? Or at least the A2 and B2 that I recognize. Or am I missing something and have big parts of some of these songs been dubbed and reworked?Maybe I'm just getting old and seeing problem where there are none but I can't help but think about those many many producers/engineers/session musicians in the 70s and 80s that were actually responsible for this music that we buy on this 12". They actually played and created it.

I really appreciate this reply, great to know that extra bit of context and valid points made.If in the end this music is introduced to a bigger audience, a next generation and this done in the 'right' way, we can only be happy about this.

you're not wrong. B2 is a copy/paste edit. the way I see it, there is no other type of edit. any additional production would make it a remix. so let me just start by saying, I absolutely agree with you - if these are simply edits, it is wrong to print "produced by Mori-Ra" on the cover. it's not fair on the original artists. however, as it turns out, we are not in a position to accuse Mori-Ra because nobody here has heard the original of B1. for all we know, it could be a remix. nobody on discogs has been able to ID it yet. that's kind of impressive.first and foremost, this EP started life as a limited run of 250 copies. these edits were clearly intended to be DJ tools for a niche "cosmic" crowd. however, they became something more than that. where the originals producers, engineers and session musicians can impress us with the original work they played and created, Mori-Ra should be judged by a different set of standards - as a cratemaster, mood mechanic and artisan selector. when the selection is this good, and the theme is this cohesive, I don't think it's wrong for the DJ to market a record in this way - to impose a particular aesthetic through the cover art, for example. Mori-Ra has breathed new life into old tracks and made them his own. hunting down obscure tracks which could use a meaningful edit is an art in and of itself.Secret Squirrels is a label that constantly bangs out generic "DJ-friendly" edits by nameless producers in plain sleeves. the tracks are devoid of time, place, meaning or context. in a market over-saturated with these pointless copy/paste edits, I think there's a lot to be said for DJs like Mori-Ra. he treats the source material with respect. in the eyes of a DJ, these tracks were in limbo - reaching for the dancefloor, but not quite able to make it. these tracks were ghosts haunting a deep forest disco in a mystical land somewhere in the East, and now, Mori-Ra has finally laid them to rest. in the words of Bill Brewster,"imagine a grand tapestry made by stitching together pieces of the finest handmade cloth. seen up close, its beauty comes from the skill of the weavers and embroiderers who made the different fabrics, but seen from a distance it has a beauty of a different scale, a more imposing grandeur that comes from the overall pattern or design. like the maker of such a tapestry, the DJ is an artist of a different order. the DJ is a musical editor, a metamusician, he makes music out of other music."one last consideration is that Mori-Ra is freeing obscure and highly sought-after tracks from discog$ jail so that everyone can enjoy them. I think that's a cause we can all get behind!edit: turns out A1 is a big remix of 'China (Extended Club Mix)' by Masayoshi Takanaka. the original is 158 BPM pop-rock, so that should tell you something... A1 and B1 are remixes, A2 and B2 are edits.

B2 is an edit of "groovy" from the Electric Connection https://www.discogs.com/de/The-Electric-Connection-Groovy/release/3803319

ok great, this definitely needs a repress! there are several record shops that didn't get the promised/ordered copies, like Oye in Berlin for example. They had a presale on website, but in the end everything was sold out before it event hit the store. So, repress is definitely welcome!
Budar
There will be a repress. Don't have an exact date yet but there will be one.
Diredefender
Emailed the label and it seems like everyone is surprised by the speed of this selling out. Both they and Mori mentioned a repress so lets hope that happens.

I also saw mori ra saying "no repress, 250copies" ...

Year is 2016 and the label is pressing 250 copies worldwide. Obviously their intention is not to sell/spread music but the worst kind of self promotion and hype. Don't get me wrong - music from Mori Ra here is great. I am talking about people behind the label who, by releasing this shameful amount of copies, are contributing to pirate industry, because if I can't BUY the record I will shorely get the mp3 rip from a friend who bought it or find it on the internet. This way, instead of selling 1000 copies (if you really decided you should be limited), earning some money and allowing DJs and music lovers to play the record and spread good music, labels owners are satisfied with the fact they released super cool limited record. Why don't you make super limited hand stamped kissed by God 50 copies? 10? One?Morons

dujvla,I'm truly sorry you're so upset about this release and it's availability. As some of the kind folks on here in the other reviews have already stated, selling out in the first day came as a surprise.I've always done 250-300 on my releases and that's not just on this label. In the one case where they did sell out (Albion's Free Fantasy...) we ended up repressing. I was sure the last record we did would sell out but there's still plenty of copies floating around. I can assure you the idea of the label is to spread the music. I do the amount I do because it's what I can afford. If the record sells out then it should give enough money back to see a repress. I would have loved to been able to pay for more copies of this record to have been produced outright as I would have gotten more for my money but that money went to making it a better overall product with OBI and beautiful artwork by talented individuals.Again I'm sorry that you're having a hard time with this release. If you would please give it a moment and we will do our best to make sure that it gets to as many people that want it. Oh! And to stop the pesky bootleggers too!Thank you!

These days folks get so angry when they can't buy a record. Get some perspective and learn a little self control while you're about it. It's all love.
Fecage
hey u fool these are bootleg edits to begin with, the act of editing this shit contributes to pirate industry before u show up whinging about ripping vinyl. It's the fkin 21st century gee
Doukasa
