I saw Flame open for the German Prog Rock Band Nektar in 1977. My take on Flame, they sounded like a supercharged garage band with a really gutsy female vocalist.I went out and bought "Queen of the Neighborhood" the very next day and gave it a serious listen quite a few times. They certainly made a lasting impression on myself as I occasionally give it a spin on my turntable!

Highly recommended to all fans of 70's hard rock with a bluesy edge. Lots of full sounding guitars...clean when they need to be, then raw 'n dirty when called for as well. The bottom end is great on this...the bass drum, toms and bass thump cleanly & massively all over this album. The opening cut "Beg Me" is a real monster. Most of the other cuts are really great too. The band is fronted by sexy vocalist Marge Raymond and she really has a powerful bluesy soul inspired voice...the kind suited well for this style of hard rock. Somewhere between Maggie Bell (Stone The Crows), Elkie Brooks (Vinegar Joe) and Jenny Haan (Babe Ruth) I suppose. The band also feature guitarist Jimmy Crespo, the man who eventually joined Aerosmith in 1979, to fill the huge vacancy left by one of the coolest rock stars to ever roam wild and free, Joe Perry, Flame burned bright on their cookin' introductory LP.
