Makes perfect sense DFA reissued this, as it basically invents a huge part of their aesthetic 20+ years before the fact. There are many great disco not disco records, but this one really embodies that detached, impossibly cool vibe. Closer to disco proper than 99 or Ze, ethereal instead of dubby, gliding instead of skittery and frenetic like a lot of dancier postpunk, but definitely still weird. Still You is the ultimate outre sex jam not sex jam. Some of these people moved in the same circles as Arthur Russell, and while this isn't as banging as Dinosaur L or Loose Joints it fits right in with some of his more laidback but still danceable work. One of those impossible records that seems to exist completely outside of any time period, like Camino del Sol. Highly recommended.

Both tracks stunning. A sense of innocence. Completely left-field. Goosebumps material.

Two magic superdeep disco covers here : "Beautiful Dreamer" is an adaptation of a traditional US song into a dreamy, psychedelic territory that could remind Max Berlin's poetic and child-like disco from the same era, a little more refined and stripped down here with multiple, very subtle and aerial layers of production, melody and sound-design details. Then you have "Encora Tu", a supposedly untouchable slice of 'dolce vita pop' from italian master Lucio Battisti ; well would you believe it, "Still You" is as good as its iconic original in a totally perfect light-as-air disco adaptation that drops its (already high) sensuality level into stratosphere : a male and impossibly sultry female voice discussing about their understanding and memories of the original song over the melody mixed in subdued mode but still totally intact, crossed around 4:00 by Peter Gordon's super slick and loose saxophone solo...definitely one of the sexiest disco moments ever produced imo.
