Thundershaper
Poet and writer Patti Smith enjoy all fame in the early 1970s New York underground with her energetic poetry readings. Her work is laced with an iconic worship for rock heroes as Jim Morisson, Brian Jones and Jimi Hendrix. Names to whom they also meet when she starts to sing and makes her debut album Horses in 1975 under the direction of producer John Cale. Horses has a powerful garage rock-like sound, the backdrop against which Smith her epic texts half spoken/half sung spits out. Not much later she finds a prominent place in the New York new wave scene and even in 1978 has a worldwide hit with it, along with Bruce Springsteen written number Because The Night. They then disappears from the scene for years to devote himself to her husband Fred "Sonic" Smith (MC5) and their children. Only after the death of Smith in 1996 she returns back to the music front with Gone Again. To this end, despite the previous personal tragedy the singer sounds more powerful and inspired than ever. Patti Smith was the first singer who her femininity and unadorned with androgynous power connected with personal obsession and spirituality. A rock Priestess that imitation was made in, among others, Alanis Morissette and P.J. Harvey.
