Notes
Recorded and mixed: Pignut Studios - March-November 2004.CD production: www.amstore.co.uk
Track notes:
1. A rollicking old time song. Recordings date way back to the 20's.
2. Recorded by the Louvin Brothers as a double 'A' side with 'Cash On The Barrelhead'.
3. The story of 'Bad' Lee Brown.
4. A widely covered 'tragic ballad' with ancient origins.
5. A breakdown tune, same family as Lost Indian and Lonesome Indian.
6. Have a drink on us Charlie........................
7. We got this version from Emry Arthur's 1928 recording. It uses his chords and melody. It's a bit different to the versions heard via the Stanley Brothers and in 'O Brother Where Art Thou'.
8. A 'truck drivin' song from the 70's. Jules' greatest hit.
9. An old-time rag tune - alternate titles 'The Lone Star Rag' or 'Forty Eight Dogs In The Meathouse'!
10. Same family as 'Sugar Babe' recorded by Dock Boggs in 1927 and "Got No Honey Baby Now'. This version was inspired by Tony Ellis.
11. Another 'brother' duet - a temperance masterpiece by the Baile Brothers.
12. Chinkapin or Chinquapin. A tree nut, 'Chrysolepis chrysophylla'. It's native region is W. United States. This version of the tune came from Will Keys, a two finger banjo player.
13. A 'brother' duet from the very early days of bluegrass. From the Bailey Brothers who got it from the Delmore Brothers. Extensive internet searches failed to reveal the author.
14. A wistful cowboy song from Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.
