I bought this album when it was released and put it on the shelf... I recently listened to it again, and I had forgotten what a great album this was. Omar's output over the past few years has been nothing short of amazing... It's a pretty intense journey through many different genres, sounds, languages, and instruments. This album is the final album in a series recorded by Omar Rodriguez Lopez in Amsterdam. Recorded in 2006, this album features Omar on guitar, bass, piano, and synths and his brother, Marcel, on Drums, Percussion, Piano, and Synths. These two sure manage to make the album's sound large enough to sound like an entire band!Megaritual touches on Omar's spacier side while simultaneously presenting moments of blaring, stripped-down ROCK. The songs feel like like a continuation of each other...moving through a roller-coaster of ambient, spaciness to blistering grooves with great guitar licks! Omar and Marcel's credibility as great musicians is noteworthy because of how much it sounds like there is A WHOLE BAND playing. This album precursors some of the work that Omar would release in 2007, such as "The Apocalypse inside an Orange" (2007)and "Se Dice Bisonte, No Bùfalo." These albums focus on instrumental jams & grooves, with minimal vocals. If you love experimental, Avant-garde music that it is slightly off-axis... then pick up this album and enjoy some of the better music of the past decade!
