Colossal Records was taken to court in 1996 over the use of samples from "Carmina Burana" and won , it was appealed in 1997 on the grounds that the "techno" version debased the original work. The Full Court was called to determine the meaning of "debase". All three judges found slightly different reasons the the "techno" version did not debase the original work , all indicated that when an adaptation has it's own artistic integrity it is unlikely to be a debasement.
