Notes
This version is similar to the version Rod Stewart - A Shot Of Rhythm And Blues, but has some minimal differences in the labels and matrix.Gatefold sleeve.
Label variant
This unique album reveals for the first time a collection of R & B classics recalling the halcyon nights of London's famous Marquee Club in Soho and Eel Pie Island gigs, in the early 60´s, when Rod Stewart took the first steps to superstardom singing with Long John Baldry´s band, The Hoochie Coochie Men.
Captured here on record are some of the finest moments from this era, six of the tracks ("Ain´t That Login´You Baby","Just Like I Treat You","Mopper´s Blues","Don't You Tell Nobody","Bright Lights, Big City","Keep Your Hands Off Her") being previously unreleased, and the other four titles ("Shake","The Day Will Come","Why Does It Go On","I Just Got Some") being taken from the two E.M.I. Columbia singles hitherto available only as sought after collectors item.
This is grass-roots Rhythm & Blues, spontaneous, urgent and hard-driving. The tracks display Rod flexing the muscles of his characteristic voice, paying homage to the styles of such greats as Sam Cooke, Rambling Jack Elliot and Eddie Cochran.
If you want to savour the original Rod Stewart, try this potent Shot of Rhythm & Blues. Get your fix now!
