I hope they will release an unmixed version of this classic mix-album,I give this a 4/5, however some tracks are pure gold
Fearlessrunner
Best compilation ever!!
felt boot
I have never really seen the value in this mix. It doesn't achieve much and the track selection is subpar.
lets go baby
This is a very interesting compilation. One of the very first, or maybe even just first, where most of the tracks were little bit reworked or even totally remixed, before they were used in the mix. Same thing was done later, by Alexander Coe, better known as Sasha, on his "Involver" and "In2volver" and more currently by Alex MORPH on his "Hands On Armada". Different Discogs database entries has some small differences in mix names for some tracks and credits - look at Polish and German editions for example. Maybe it's a good place to explain some of these differences and add more details about the tracks that require this. If in text below states that "credit appears in booklet" it refers to edition that I own - an Italian edition, released by Wild! Entertainment. Please keep in mind that I am unable to determine if all editions have the same inlay notes.CD1:1. Ashtrax - Digital Reason - basically this is the Filterheadz Remix of this track, which is not even noted in booklet. It is also seriously edited by PvD.2. Joker Jam - Innocence (Paul Van Dyk TPoD Remix) - version on this CD is little bit different than the one available on single (differences occurs in hi-hats, vocal effects). Remix credit doesn't appear in booklet nor on tracklist on backcover.3. Private Taste - First - it's not exactly Original Mix - this was also edited by PvD.4. Jimpy - Feeling Good (Original Version). Well, until now I thought this must be edited by PvD. I knew this track from a very old mp3 file, that was available at mp3.com when site was in its initial phase - full of totally free music. But some time ago I bought this CD: http://www.discogs.com/release/178735 and I had to change my words. Version used on "Soundworx" is exactly the same as used here, on TPOD. Then it's Original Version. We can say "final version" as probably the file from mp3.com was an unfinished, unmastered track.5. PvD - Vega (Starecase Remix) - for example on edition that I own remix credit is noted only in booklet. Vocal from Filmpalast's "I Want" is strongly distorted by some studio effects. "Vega (Starecase Remix)" sounds also like later edited by PvD (bassline).6. Southern Comforter - Another Late Thursday (Original Mix) - it is also seriously edited by PvD. He mostly edited bassline to let all the tracks has the same hypnotic feeling. Basically the bassline in this edit comes just from "Vega (Starecase Remix)".7. iiO - Rapture - there's no note even in booklet that in fact it's just PvD edit of John Creamer & Stephane K's remix (as consciously revealed here by moonmaniac - see his original comment below). This edit was later released twice, as just "PvD Remix" on some unofficial vinyl releases and only in 2008 on official CD release ( http://www.discogs.com/iiO-Rapture-Reconstruction-Platinum-Edition/release/1241622 ).8. Sipping Soma - Superconscious (So Alive) (Coast 2 Coast House Remix). Remix credit doesn't appear even in booklet of my (Italian) edition. It was also edited by PvD - he removed lot's of vocal parts and shortened track to keep only that most club-exciting parts. You can call it "Paul van Dyk Dub Edit" as vocals were mainly removed.9. Timo Maas - Killin' Me - it's untouched Jan Driver Remix, taken from vinyl released in 2001. It wasn't edited by PvD. Remix credit doesn't appear in booklet or on tracklist on backcover.10.Maji Na Damu - B.W.Y (DJ 19 & H Garden Slap Remix) - Remix credit appears only in booklet. It's just untouched track from B side of this release: http://www.discogs.com/Maji-Na-Damu-L3D-BWY/release/242113 . You can check there stream from Youtube with both A and B side. Remix title ("Slap Remix") isn't noted in booklet.11. U2 - Elevation - it's of course just Vandit Club Mix of this track. Remix title isn't noted anywhere on the release. Don't confuse it with "Paul van Dyk Remix", which is separate track, available , together with Vandit Club Mix on some 12'' and 3x different Maxi CDs released by Island Records in Germany, USA and UK.12. Paul van Dyk - Autumn - unreleased track by PvD. Available also on Blank & Jones "In The Mix (Volume 1). Discogs user moonmaniac suggests, that this is PvD rework of Chicane's "Autumn Tactics" and this is very likely that in fact this is PvD rework of "Autumn Tactics (The Thrillsekkers Remix)".13. Viframa - Cristalle - it's just unedited Original Mix.14. Solicitous - Furthermost - the version used here is Pure Pleasure Mix. It's little bit edited - Paul has shortened the part after breakdown, to keep main melody playing continuously. Note that bassline before breakdown comes entirely from Viframa's "Cristalle". Only after breakdown bassline is original.15. Subsky - Four Days (Original Mix). It's incorrectly credited in booklet as "remix & additional production by Gilbert van Haasen". In fact it is Original Mix. It wasn't edited by PvD. Originally released on Sadie Records – Sadie 011 vinyl in 2002. Available digitally on "Dreamsounds 4", double CD compilation.16. Second Sun - Empire (Paul van Dyk TPOD Remix) - this version differs from the one on single. Difference is for example in breakdown that occurs at 0:56 on TPOD compilation and on 1:56 on single version. Paul van Dyk isn't credited for remix in booklet nor on tracklist on backcover.17. Paul van Dyk - Out There - it's just the same track as on "Columbia EP", but the volume is faded at the end.CD2:1. Sagitaire - Shout, C'mon (Coast 2 Coast Remix) - remix credit for C2C appears in booklet - also, it was seriously edited (especially bassline) by PvD (which - of course - isn't noted anywhere).2. Mirco de Govia - Epic Monolith - my favorite track on this compilation, maybe just my favorite track of all time. It's Club Mix / Album Version but bassline is equalized in the beginning, and intro is little bit shortened. It's not Original Mix - this one appears only on Euphonic Records compilation "Positive Ways 2" and sounds completely different. Club Mix was released by Euphonic on vinyl and digitally, and by Xtravaganza on vinyl and CDM. Album Mix has longer intro. Album Mix is available on Mirco's first album ("Chronoscale") in two different versions - on CD, where intro is shorter and in digital form (WAV/mp3) where intro is longer. Digital version is available at Juno.3. Ralphie B. - Massive (Paul van Dyk TPOD Remix). Another brilliant track. It's sad that this version is unreleased and available only here. I think it's the best version of "Massive". There's no credit for PvD for that remix - neither in booklet nor on tracklist on backcover. Paul played this version several times in his DJ sets - for example on Mayday in 2002.4. David Forbes - Questions Must Be Asked - version used here is untouched Magica Remix, which isn't noted anywhere on the release.5. Way Out West - Activity - another unmentioned slight Paul van Dyk edit (again the bassline).6. Connector - Interference (Original Mix). Again bassline was edited by PvD.7. Blank & Jones - Secrets & Lies (Solid Sessions Remix) - remix credit appears in booklet as "remix and additional production by Solid Session" (note the missing "s" in "Sessions"). Bassline was also edited here by PvD.8. Lexicon 4 - Reach Me (Original Mix) edited by PvD - he removed vocals (and thus whole breakdown) completely, as there were licensing issues with them, later he edited bassline and added/changed some synths. It's another "Paul van Dyk Dub Edit" that was produced especially for TPOD compilation. This track is really rare because of mentioned licensing issues with vocal samples used in original version from vinyl. It got released only as test pressing / white label in some extremely limited amount, like 50 VLs.9. Jamnesia - Reset - Paul van Dyk edit. PvD took the very beginning of the track and pasted breakdown right after it. Both excerpts are originally beatless - but on TPOD they are just layered on beats from tracks mixed behind - number 8 and number 10.10. 4 Strings - Into The Night - just original instrumental mix.11. ActiveX - Let's Go - used version is seriously edited Vank Remix. Bassline was totally changed by Paul van Dyk.12. Signum - In Progress - edited by PvD side B from Signum's "First Strike" vinyl. Edit is less chunky and more smooth.13. Walter & Gelder - Seven Of Nine. This is just error on original tracklist, similarly to CD1-15, where booklet lists incorrect remix credit for "Four Days". "Seven Of Nine" is side B of Walter & Gelder's single "Section O/Seven Of Nine", so someone has just switched vinyl sides when making tracklist. It seems it wasn't edited by Paul though. This was revealed by Discogs user indecentnoise (see his comment below). Thank you again!14. Solid Sleep - Club Attack (Paul van Dyk TPOD Mix) - remix credit appears in booklet15. Guardians Of The Earth - Starchildren - this is edited "Quasi-Dub", you can check here both vinyl versions, as someone has later added Quasi Dub on Youtube: http://www.discogs.com/Guardians-Of-The-Earth-Starchildren/release/120750 ). You will clearly notice, that Paul has completely removed main melody, which was little bit to cheesy to fit with rest of tracks on CD. PvD editing is most noticeable around 3:40 and 4:00 on TPOD version. So we have finally another "PvD Dub Edit".16. Nu NRG - Dreamland - just original untouched version, but with removed last 30 sec. (outro). So the full tracklist goes like this:Disc 1:01. Ashtrax – Digital Reason (Filterheadz Remix – Paul van Dyk Edit)02. Joker Jam – Innocence (Paul van Dyk TPOD Remix)03. Private Taste – First (Original Mix – Paul van Dyk Edit)04. Jimpy – Feeling Good (Original Version) - not the PvD edit!05. Paul van Dyk – Vega (Starecase Remix) / Filmpalast – I Want (Acapella)06. Southern Comforter – Another Late Thursday (Original Mix – Paul van Dyk Edit)07 iiO – Rapture (John Creamer & Stephane K Remix - Paul van Dyk TPOD Edit)08. Sipping Soma – Superconcious (So Alive) (Coast 2 Coast House Remix – Paul van Dyk Dub Edit)09. Timo Maas – Killin' Me (Jan Driver Remix)10. Maji Na Damu – B.W.Y. (DJ 19 & H. Garden Slap Remix)11. U2 – Elevation (Vandit Club Mix)12. Paul van Dyk – Autumn (unreleased) OR maybe we should say: Chicane - Autumn Tactics (The Thrillseekers Remix - Paul van Dyk TPOD Rework)13. Viframa – Cristalle (Original Mix)14. Solicitous – Furthermost (Pure Pleasure Mix - Paul van Dyk Edit)15. Subsky – Four Days (Original Mix)16. Second Sun – Empire (Paul van Dyk TPOD Remix)17. Paul van Dyk – Out ThereDisc 2:01. Sagitare – Shout, C'Mon (Coast To Coast Remix – Paul van Dyk Edit)02. Mirco de Govia – Epic Monolith (Club Mix)03. Ralphie B. – Massive (Paul van Dyk TPOD Remix)04. David Forbes – Questions Must Be Asked (Magica Remix)05. Way Out West – Activity (Paul van Dyk Edit)06. Connector – Interference (Original Mix – Paul van Dyk Edit)07. Blank & Jones – Secrets & Lies (Solid Sessions Remix – Paul van Dyk Edit)08. Lexicon 4 – Reach Me (Original Mix – Paul van Dyk Dub Edit)09. Jamnesia – Reset (Paul van Dyk Edit)10 4 Strings – Into The Night (Original Instrumental Mix)11. ActiveX – Let's Go (Vank Remix – Paul van Dyk Edit)12. Signum – In Progress (Paul van Dyk Edit)13. Walter & Gelder – Seven Of Nine14. Solid Sleep – Club Attack (Paul van Dyk TPOD Remix)15. Guardians Of The Earth – Starchildren (Quasi Dub – Paul van Dyk Edit)16. Nu NRG – Dreamland I hope you find it useful and helpful. Edited & improved on 15-11-2015 and 30-01-2016. Revealed CD2-13 as "Seven Of Nine", thanks to Discogs user indecentnoise (see his comment below). Corrected typos, some minor text changes and background details added.Later edited & improved on 01-09-2016, thanks to Discogs user moonmaniac (see below). Revealed iiO's "Rapture" as PvD rework of John Creamer & Stephane K remix plus suggestion for PvD's "Autumn" to be a rework of Chicane's "Autumn Tactics", most probably The Thrillseekers remix. Also some slight text changes and last typos corrected.
Bloodhammer
I've heard from many of Paul van Dyk's biggest fans back in the day that the inclusion of Rapture wasn't his choice exactly as he's only played the record once or twice otherwise where as with most of the other records on TPOD were amongst the tracks he was caining regularly. I remember how M.O.S. was pushing Rapture extensively and they had it in one form or another in almost every M.O.S. compilation or mixcd released in 2001 and 2002.For the released version of PvD's Rework on Made Records, I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually Markus Moser that took the version from TPOD and edited it to make it "releasable". It does sound like he took that one part from the breakbeat-breakdown that doesn't include any of Nadia Ali's vocals and looped it for the intro/mix-in and added a minor swoosh and a slightly bigger swoosh for the transition into the track. The Outro is just the that one bar that is faded & filtered out.

To the remix of "Rapture" I would add something: indeed, I checked and it is true that the base for PvD remix is Creamer & Stephane K remix. But what is important - whole percussion overlay is taken just from previous track on CD - Southern Comforter's "Another Late Thursday". And "Another Late Thursday" is also heavily edited, as it's baseline on TPOD comes entirely from "Vega" in Starecase remix... Getting back to "Rapture" - you are right about entire bassline and acid elements in breakdown. Thanks for sharing this with us :)But for "Autumn" you were to little specific. Indeed this may be "Autumn Tactics" by Chicane, but if it really is, then it must be in Thrilseekers remix. I am not surprised, that I missed the truth behind "Rapture" as I don't like this track in any version. But for "Autumn" I am surprised that I missed remixes / forgotten the remixes of "Autumn Tactics". But on the other hand beauty of "Behind The Sun" album caused that I seriously treasured it and never wanted to seriously look for remixes, as they will most probably not fit into concept of the album... So I mostly disregarded them.

The Remix of Rapture, (even though it was released by Markus Moser of Made Records as a Paul van Dyk remix), is infact a rework of John Creamer & Stephane K Remix. Listen closely and you can hear the same sounds. van Dyk kicked up the tempo, added his bass-line & beat and another drumloop and added the pseudo-acidy breakbeat part in the breakdown for the fact the Creamer & Stephane K Remix just drops off in energy in the break. This part is also used for the intro. Also it should be noted that Autumn samples Chicane's Autumn Tactics and is van Dyk's remake of the song
godlike
indecentnoise - Thank you 1000000 times!! That was a really stunning discovery, at least for someone who like me missed vinyl era and don't know them to much.
Super P
this is some deep analysis done, one thing tho: there is error in tracklist, CD2 track 13 is in fact Walter & Gelder - Seven of Nine (B side of Section O)
