Just noticed the labels for record one and two are swapped on my copy, record one labelled as starting with "Tokyo" but it's actually "Inventures in Wonderland". Both records have 2 tracks on side A and three on Side B.

Rhythm Invention only released one album, INVENTURES IN WONDERLAND, but it came at a time when Warp was still innovating with music. And while "Tokyo" sounds like a proto-typical acid house track... but what's that electric guitar chord doing in there? It's one of the perks that Rhythm Invention tosses into their work to keep it interesting. "All Jacked Up" and "Fresh Momentum" are more straigh-forwardly familiar, made for maximum club exposure. "Zero PSI" gets more melodic and goes for breaks instead of a 4/4, hinting at where Richard Brown would later go with his Swag project. The breaks get more bleepy with "Chronoclasm" and "Methomania" adds a moodiness to accompany the more tribal rhythm. But "P/Nutz" gets back to pure club pleasure, even as "Quattrocentro" exhorts you to 'come on.' But "Exit," the last track, goes for some grand techno, with a short but epic build (and the hidden track is an exercise in minimalism). Inventive rhythms indeed!

I have wanted this album for a long time and finally got it recently. Well, I'm absolutely not disappointed. At all. Probably not as "hitable" as the single "Can't Take It", this album is however very well produced. Plenty of different rhythm types, from breakbeat to simple bassdrum lines and some heavy atmospheric oldschool synths (those you can hear, for example, on most Kevin Saunderson's oldschool releases, whatever nicks he has used) sometimes coupled with some light and simple techno/house sounds giving this album a serious, but not sad, overall identity.

Richard Brown has been one of the best producers in the UK. People have often claimed that house music cannot make good albums. I beg to differ, and this album backs up my theory. If you do not have this record then make an effort to get hold of it. You will not be disappointed.
