Gerd’s debut This Touch Is Greater Than Moods, on the long-missed Universal Langauge Productions, is still one of the pinnacles of techno-funk. “Nautiloidea” has got a groove that just puts a smile on your face, and “Qare Scent Spangled Arcanum” is space funk at its best. “Carxan 7.1” starts off ambient, then moves into the groove halfway through; “Century City,” on the other hand, kicks into the beat right away and doesn’t let go for its ten minute running time -- the track gets brighter and brighter. “Austaris Solalia” starts in a jazzy, downtempo vein, but the breaks kick in and keep things moving. An outstanding example of the heights to which electronic can go.
