What a strange record to put on these days. You can easily slip the MK mix into a set while the Altern 8 mix sounds very much of its time and would stick out like the proverbial sore thumb.I picked it up because I realized that pretty much everything Kevin Saunderson touched around 1991 to 1992 is gold and the same goes for Mark Kinchen. I wasn't exactly disappointed but..well, see below. I just want to note how the songs, though all roughly the same length, take up significantly different amounts of the surface. The original is pretty interesting. Kevin Saunderson was one of the few American producers who really embraced the UK rave sounds, he really went for it. Usually Saunderson would do two mixes, one house and the other hardcore, but here he combines the two. The tune starts out pretty similar to a lot of his Inner City material but halfway through changes into a hardcore tune. The "Trance Dance" mix is perfectly redundant. The Komix mix makes it sound like a version of "Good Life" (showing what a huge impact that tune had on house music). Altern 8 pretty much toss out everything but the vocal and some rave stabs, adding a breakbeat and turning up the "rave" knob. MK does the opposite - slowing down things, adding more piano and some nice key changes. Not a very inspired release. Everyone delivers pretty much exactly what's expected. Really it's the vocals that bring the whole thing down - perfectly serviceable but not of the caliber of Inner City's other tunes. I wish the MK mix had even less of the vocal than it does. Still, one could do a lot worse for a dollar.
