This is an excellent example of straightup Latin hiphop (aka "freestyle", although I don't understand why it's called that when freestyle is dissin'-type rap battle brutality, but... oh, well) anyway... This really takes me way back to the IMAGINE events when Filipino DJ crews proliferated SFO Bay; and I hung out backstage with CORINA, while SAFIRE or JUDY TORRES (my memory is fuzzy; I was backstage) was performing on stage out front!Specifically regarding this record, and others on MIC-MAC like CYNTHIA, SOLID, etc., which were released during the start of the '90s (or late '80s) so the Latin hiphop scene was peaking with releases by MARTIKA, ELISA FIORILLO, JELLYBEAN, NOEL, etc. This was state-of-the-art dance music from the streets that was fashioned after influences starting with early MADONNA, KRAFTWERK, FREEZE/JOHN ROCCA ("AEIOU" or "I.O.U."), etc. As far as "edits" are concerned, the subsequent evolution of the dance scene towards global big-beat, Euro pop trance, stadium DJ superstars, Underground hardcore, street festival hardstyle, etc. that's a completely different world light years away in a new era. Appreciate and remember timeless classic Latin hiphop from another time, another place.
