Ok, lets address the elephant in the room here when I write this review - I was born 4 years after this album was released. This may help as it is not covered in nostalgia. This does not mean these tracks are alien to me, a lot of these I recognise from heavy rotation for years to come on the local pop / rock radio station and music played by my parents.I have heard from other critics that the early 90s were a difficult time for popular music. Trying to distance itself from the decade previous and yet wanting to break new ground, but then not become too distant from what has worked in the past. This lead to the charts being a mess of genres and styles and fields upon fields of bland music being pumped out.I understand this album was released at the very turn of the decade, and includes a lot of "hits" from the tail end of the 80s - but I still won't let that excuse the terrible selection of tracks here. Most of these tracks have not aged well, and the ones that have aged well are the ones we all know well.I'm glad I didn't pay too much for this compilation, and it has been an interesting listen - helping me understand the state of "pop" in 1990. At least things got better from here, right?Tracks I enjoyed (11/30 = 36.6%):Tears for Fears - Sowing The Seeds of LoveChris Rea - The Road To HellTina Turner - The BestGuns N Roses - Sweet Child O' MineShakespears Sister - You're HistoryThe Beautiful South - Song for WhoeverLisa Stansfield - All Around The WorldGipsy Kings - BamboleoPaula Abdul - Straight UpDe La Soul - Eye KnowBlack Box - Ride On Time
