A lot can also be said for the production and playing on the LP, led by Haroumi Hosono.
one album, three singles, and that was it. that was the whole extent of chiemi manabe's mercifully brief career outside of pansy, the idol trio she entered the entertainment industry under. the first of those singles, "nerawareta shoujo" (one of the standout tracks on this album), barely even cracked the top 100 of the oricon charts, and neither the other two singles nor the album itself charted at all. yesterday's failed pop idol turned today's cosmic DJ set darling is probably not how chiemi would have expected her career to end up, but there isn't a single bad track on this album, the synth programming is crisp, the melodies are catchy, and the production quality is probably a good 15 years ahead of its time. a most unexpected, but definitely welcome, revival.
Thanks. Real interesting stuff! Not speaking Japanese has made research on a few artists pretty hard and initially your comment was the only proof I had that Pansy actually existed until I saw this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoyDSkj27dw . It's a great song in my opinion, but then all of a sudden Pansy enters at timestamp 1:48. A real fun looking group, funny they failed so spectacularly. A seemingly J-Pop Hard Days Night. Would love to see the media they were a part of.
this writeup from an ameblo user (all in JP, obviously) has the most detail I can find about their group activities. http://ameblo.jp/tota320/entry-12192034382.htmlto summarize, they starred in a TV drama and a film, but never released anything as a group. it seems they all released records individually through separate labels, though (that probably didn't help their cause w). judging from the contemporary promotional material shown in the above article, their agency, oscar promotion, was trying to promote them as new successors to the likes of hugely popular retired idol groups like candies and pink lady, particularly with the latter group having just disbanded at the time. looks like they failed at that.simply put, chiemi is a failed 80's idol from a failed 80's idol group, which makes her newfound popularity in recent years all the more intriguing
I can't find anything about pansy, any links to records online?
