The Genuine EP is a record that should have never gone public. The original master DAT was full of distortion making it impossible to sell. Solo Sound Studio was too expensive to fix the master. The only alternatives were to scrap the project and focus on the next, or send it to the pressing plant and hand it out to dj's as a publicity stunt. Because the label wanted to have a documented footprint in 1994 the decision was made to press 100 copies.Several years later after the mp3 revolution, a lot of dj's and vinyl enthusiasts began to auction off their vinyl collections. This opened up opportunities for collectors to fill in the holes of their collections and gave way for a new generation of vinyl heads to start building their own collections with Golden Age classics. Asphalt Poetry had gained a place at the top of these auctions with ASP0001 (HARMAGEDION) and ASP0002 (THE GENUINE)selling for hundreds of dollars.Although ASP0001 was successfully reissued by ripping the original vinyl, three of the 4 tracks on "The Genuine" proved to be too distorted to rip. For this reason there would be no reissue of THE GENUINE EP as ASP0002 but rather a reconstructed revision as ASP0003.To make these tracks playable they were filtered and layered with elements from preproduction takes and instrumentals obtained from the original keyboard sampler disks. ASP0003 can be considered as a "hybrid release". One part reissue, one part remastered, and 2 parts unreleased material. In any case, THE GENUINE EP (REVISITED) is just that, a revisit.
