Zoot Woman was initially best known as the band of Stuart Price, the English dance producer who with his project Les Rythmes Digitales (made as his French alter-ego Jacques Lu Cont) at the beginning of the eighties-and electro revival. Nevertheless, that was a real band Zoot Woman, in which also the brothers Adam (keyboards) and Johhny Blake (vocals, guitar) had an important share. Zoot Womans debut album Living In A Magazine (2001) was filled by the eighties influences and was ultra hip. So hip even that Stuart by Madonna was asked to join her Drowned World Tour. When this was last the gentlemen could start with the new album. Zoot Woman (2003) is again a cd that is full of influences from the 1980s but is going to be a lot further than the popular electroclash. Actually, there is plenty to hear, synthesizers and electronics, but also guitars. Zoot Woman is therefore a varied plate, which makes clear that the eighties revival not flat and have to be mealy and indeed refined can sound.

Zoot Woman often makes me wonder why the 80s ever went away. And, sure, their second album, self-titled this time, has that synth-rock hybrid that made the 80s happen, and it's almost enough to make you feel nostalgic. But, even so, "Taken It All" feels almost modern with its heavy thump and romancing vocals, as does the darker "Gem." And is that a hint of folksiness I hear strumming its way through "Snow White" (along with the electronics, of course)? Their loungier side comes out on "Calmer," which still has enough bass to shake your internal organs, and their rock side brings out the guitars for "Useless Anyway." And "Half Full of Happiness" is like a neon light flickering over a sea of Members Only jackets. Ten years just isn't enough for a good decade.

Does anyone else have the version of this that is actually side A and B from the 10 years of wall of sound LP? WALLLP033?

Yes. The local record store I bought mine from had ordered five, all of them mispressed. I kept mine, the other four were returned.
