Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding means school's in session with ALPINISMS, the School of 7 Bells' debut after making a huge splash on Prefuse 73's PREPARATIONS. The track "Iamundernodisguise" appears here in its original shoegaze form. "Face To Face On High Places" is more traditionally harmonic, as is the warm and buzzy "Half Asleep." "Wired For Light" makes an electric guitar sound almost like an Indian instrument, while "Sempiternal/Amaranth" starts off on a much more electronic note but eventually segues into hazy layers of sound. "Chain" puts the vocals through auto-tune for a faux-electro feel, but that feel works better on the more hip-hop oriented "Prince Of Peace." "My Cabal" takes the album out on some more of those vocal harmonics with a definite rock orientation, even though 'cabal' isn't pronounced like 'cable.' Still, with such lovely voices, even the wrong words sound right.
