One of my favourite tracks off this album is definitely '520 at 8:30' - it creates such a chilling, ethereal atmosphere that I could listen to for hours on end. The introduction of the strings mid-song really tug at my heart and inspire so many emotions - this song has helped me through a hard time and I praise Jeff McIlwain for his musical mastery.

A stunning album from start to finish. While it is Ambient, and yes you can play it in the background or when drifting off to sleep, it is actually lively & interesting enough to maintain your attention should you desire. And there is plenty to find interest in on this album.I'm no expert on the technical side of music production, but it's clear to anyone that this album has been crafted with meticulous care and a highly advanced knowledge of sound engineering.Every track fascinates. You never find yourself bored with the experience.A double LP vinyl reissue would be incredible!

A classic for ambient listeners, as well as electonikers alike. One of my all time favorite by far.

I grow up listening to HipHop, as a young adult I used to listen a lot of rock, reggae, electronic music, ...Whatever the musical style, this album is for very very (very) far the one I listened to the most ! Maybe a thousand times (no kidding). A pure jewel !!Thank you so much Jeff McIlwain !

It seems that Jeff McIlwain reserves the "ICL" suffix in his moniker for his more minimal and ambient works released on Hymen [whereas the two Lusine albums appearing on Ghostly International are more beat oriented]. Born in Texas and now residing in Seattle, McIlwain builds his expertise on studies of 20th century electronic music and sound design for music and film at the California Institute of the Arts. Incorporating field recordings, superb depth reverberation, and deep bass thumps in just the right places, Language Barrier explores the entire frequency spectrum and fully elevates you into an audiophile's heaven (Grados required for full access). McIlwain masters the art of beatless rhythms and sonic engineering, creating vast soundscapes that spread over your cochlea like dew over waking hills. Reserved for very special occasions, this delicacy should be consumed slowly, enjoying every measured and very treasured sip.
