First half decent Annual in almost a decade! CD1 dishes up some funky vocal house, almost dips into trance with a couple of Chicane and Deadmau5 tracks. A god awful remix of Rhythm Is A Dancer is a low point for the CD, but the tracks generally are pretty palatable.CD2 starts off with a super-happy-euro-bounce track by...Basshunter. Despite its very cheesy chart start, the first half of the CD is actually geared toward vocal house, before breaking into this weird house vs dubstep/grime and then back into house. Theres a couple of skipple forgettable tracks on it, but again they haven't done too bad of a job.CD3 this is where they shoved all the electro and tech house stuff...at least for the first half of the CD, which is fantastically dull; with it's only saving gracing being Warriors Dance. The second half of the CD is devoted to the rise of DnB, and it's a fairly solid mix, I enjoyed this half.Completely baffles me. Happy to have Basshunter, Cascada, Flip and Fill nonsense on The Annual between 2002-2008, and completely happy to include DnB in 2009. But completely ignoring Hardcore which was big, and in the compilation charts from 02-06, and just as big as the cheesier clubland stuff. A trick was missed I think. That said, The Annual has been a bit of a mess music wise, and has never had much genre organisation, or variety.It's good to see The Annual making an album that I wouldn't be too embarrassed to have on my CD shelf.
