I lost my original copy many years ago, but managed to track another down recently for less than the price of a cup of coffee :) This tape is, in my opinion, one of the best compilations of the 1990s, of any genre. One look at the tracklist should be enough, but it just seems to get better and better as each track arrives. I won't describe each track individually, as many should be well-known to fans of the genre. Others, such as Carl Craig's "Puntang", are (or were) a little more obscure - this one in particular begs the question "why did this not get a widespread release around the time of its creation?" - it's an absolute masterpiece which I can listen to over and over again, yet it's still not really that easy to find, at least on vinyl. Yet, when Model 500 follow, it doesn't feel like a let-down, it simply maintains the quality that had built over the previous 45 minutes - there's no filler here!I've never been a great fan of Detroit-style techno, not even back in the 1990s. I always preferred (and still do) the "London Acid Techno" style above all else. However, as I've got older, I've learned to appreciate Detroit music much more. Unlike the 303 madness created by my favourite London producers, I find that a lot of Detroit techno can feel quite "chilled" when played at low volumes, yet when you crank up the volume, it turns into banging dancefloor mayhem - the best of both worlds :)While Side 1 emphasises the Detroit sound, Side 2 is the "European" side, and features some well-known rave classics, as well as the immense and hard-to-find "Scarlet Circus" - what a way to end a phenomenal collection! As I love a lot of different genres (from ambient to hardcore punk), I often look for music which can be enjoyed simply for one reason - because it happens to be good music - and not just because it "will fit in with my DJ sets" or whatever. And there is absolutely LOTS of good music here!

I have this on a cassette that came free with the now defunct Muzik Magazine, which was a rival to Mixmag Magazine. The giveaways if i remember were pretty good, but this was most probably the best one. However i wish they could of released on CD back in August 1995.
