John Martyn Fan here definitely, love the early Lps, up to One World really, and there are for me great moments on this Lp, but overall it is to me, as if John Martyn thought, to himself, I'm going to see just how incoherently stylised I can make my vocal delivery before the record company tells me to stop taking the mickey out of them. He wrote great songs, great words, beautiful lyricist and yet in his attempt to turn his voice into pure instrument he obscures his lyrics and unless you want to read and listen at the same time, it comes across as indulgent self satisfied waffle in some places, to me this is the first of those Lps where that indulgence creates 'issues' for me. That said... .. I love John Martyn..

I also love Solid Air, Bless The Weather, Sundays Child, One World, the John Songs on the John/Beverley records, the two early albums, some of his later albums (grace... and Fool ) - but this one can be the greatest of all his records, so beautiful! It should be worth over 1000 whatever, just for the music. Can't understand why he is not as much iconic as Nick Drake.
