Not sure if it's the production or the mastering, but the overall sound on this release is pretty dismal. The repress also had fairly intrusive surface noise issues, likely exacerbated by the fact the whole release is very quiet to begin with. I wanted to want it, but with the hefty price tag (~$20 USD new in the States) I just couldn't bring myself to actually purchase it.

Hey I also have the same problem. Tested on two different turntables with three different needles. Side A especially. Quite disappointed as this is a great release...
Gold Crown
Nah man, it sounds good.. it's just lo-fi... It's just the recording setting

Apologies, that was a slight jab, when you say "no *insert term* intended" it always kinda implies it, haha. I just try to share an opinion when it's a release that I have particular feelings about, and I never try to be negative, just candid. The releases I start a conversation about production quality on are almost always things that I either end up buying anyway or really being bummed that I don't buy. Anyway, to each their own (in all regards), just my thoughts on the release based off of my experiences with pressing and releasing records.

I've got new needles, and I listen to most records on at least a couple different turntables before purchasing them. If I listened to this record online and bought it without ever actually hearing the physical record I would be hugely disappointed, and I don't think it is wrong to have an open dialogue about things like this on Discogs. In regards to it being an ambient piece, such music deserves to be produced at a higher quality since it inherently is more prone to vinyl production issues, this is why ambient records are usually on the higher end of the price scale for records. In this case, the characteristic that came most "alive" from being pressed at a low volume is the surface noise. Having high standards for vinyl releases shouldn't be something you get shade for, it's a massively expensive hobby, and as a consumer and supporter of labels and artists you should have a reasonable expectation of quality, especially for high priced titles.

True, one side seems to be mastered at a very low volume on both pressings...just crank up your amp!
Jum
I had this issue on my copy, which is from the first pressing.
BlackBerry
Yeah, I definitely enjoy the music. I've heard the first press in a living room, it also seemed a bit quiet but I don't recall any surface noise.
Kea
Did either of you hear an example from the 1st pressing and if so was it any better? There is some crackle here and there but tbh it's not that bad. Great music anyway, lo-fi "ambient-house" vibes.

It definitely has that slight lo-fi production which I'm sure is somewhat intentional but yes - the surface noise is an issue that I noticed particularly on the A-side.
Rleyistr
one of the best 2014 releases imho
