The Big Apple Jazz Band - Dixieland With a New York Accent
“Big Apple Jam" is a collection of jam sessions recorded informally at The Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center, Rockland Community College Performing Arts Center, a couple of private parties, the Garden of the Edward Hopper House in Nyack (if you listen carefully. you'll hear the crickets chirping along with the band), and in the studio of OKOM.com where we gathered together with a group of friends to record with the late. great Dorothy Loudon for the last time. Dorothy died a few months after this session. I left her reaction to “Some of These Days" on this CD so that you might get a sense of the fun we had performing with Dorothy.
Having fun is what this music is about. Our improvisations on these tunes are never the same each
time we play them. Performances in front of a live audience, while not always “instrumentally perfect”, have an excitement and edge to than usually not present in studio recordings.
The musicians in these various combos are in my judgement among the best in the business. And
the long-term friendships underlying our musical collaboration create a chemistry which increases
the pleasure of our jam sessions and gigs. The musicians on the various tracks are listed on the inside front cover. The tunes are listed below. I hope that you enjoy listening to these sessions as much as we enjoyed playing at them.
