Jam-packed with fascinating 'jungle' noises and warm Funky rhythms, this eccentric release takes ethnic electronics in a whole new and different direction. Obviously trying to be evocative of hot, sticky African nights, this record is an entertaining and fascinating listening experience. An interesting series of journeys through semi-imaginary lands. The rhythms seem to sit in the background while masses of noise goes on around them - a chilling blend of animal noises, some electronically enhanced, join voices and environmental sounds to create a groovy easy listening background sound. You get the impression that these people have no scores to settle and no message to give out - this is purely there to entertain you. You also get the impression that somewhere in their history there's a wee bit of Space Rock - in fact if HAWKWIND settled down and reinvented themselves as a lounge easy listening group using environmental backgrounds and a tribal theme, this is perhaps how they'd sound. But, as soft and easy as the bass and 'tribal' drumming may be, there's enough edge to make it as dangerous as losing your way and wandering off into the jungle. In fact the opening piece brought some of NICO's "The End" to mind with all the alien animal sounds. As a cassette release the sound quality a little muted, but it's a clearly well recorded, professional mix. Originally reviewed for Soft Watch.
