"Quickness" is indeed a great and underrated album, I recommend it to any Bad Brains fan who overlooked it in favour of the classic early outputs, as well as American hardcore enthusiasts. There's a lot of good tunes here, my favourite probably being opening "Soul Craft", with its powerful riffs combined with an epic touch. Some interesting dub moments are to be found while you proceed with the listening too.About the lyrics of "Don't Blow Bubbles", calling them homophobic is a bit unfair to me. Bad Brains are Rastafarians, and Rastafarianism, like all Abrahamic religions, sees homosexuality as a deviation of the individual, that demands a cure. Mind you, in Jamaica, the land where Rastafarianism developed, homosexuality is even illegal. But, "Don't Blow Bubbles" doesn't incite to kill or bash gays, it just encourages them to ask Jah for the cure to their condition, according to the band's belief.I understand you may not agree, but calling them homophobic is a bit absurd. Especially because were're talking about a hardcore punk band, c'mon! Wasn't punk born as a provocative, offensive, insulting attitude? Weren't the Sex Pistols wearing swastikas and getting spits from the audience? Today I see old bands changing their lyrics, afraid to be offensive. Well, if punk has become another washed-down politically correct crap, where's the fun?

Fear was a joke band that pissed people off on purpose. They weren't outright homophobes when it came to their music.

Clueless. I guess you've never read about their incident with the Big Boys.

Hardcore punk is supposed to be blatant, anyway. Fear sang "New York's allright if you're homosexual". Homophobic too? This homophobia-hystery just smells like censorship to me.

I think BillSwingo gives a great picture of this album. I got this when it came out in 89 and had no idea until I recently read about the lyrics on Dont Blow No Bubbles.... I never could understand what HR was singing about 80% of the time anyway. Don't let that crap spoil the rest of this awesome album. I won't defend this or any other band for homophobic content, but this album is part of my growing up and I have always dug it. It was 25 years ago... I still can't understand HR. 5 stars from me.

Underrated, overlooked Bad Brains LP. Probably their last good (but not GREAT) studio record. Unfortunately the album is blemished by the stupid, homophobic lyrics of Don't Blow No Bubbles. The controversial lyrics of this that song were well documented in a couple of issues of Maximum Rocknroll, when editor Tim Yohanan missed the point of the lyrics and gave the album a good review, prompting Mike Bullshit (of the band Go! and Bullshit Monthly Zine) to write into MRR bringing the true nature to light. If one can overlook those lyrics, one will find music that is similar to what the band did on I Against I.
