STEP AHEAD - STEP AHEAD (FGBG 4037.AR) CD 66mI first discovered Step Ahead when their sole album was reissued in Japan. A little known early-80's French progressive, Step Ahead were strongly influenced by Yes and also the Italian scene, often drawing close to the sound of The Trip on their TIME OF CHANGE album. Step Ahead were an experienced and very competent band, one of their keyboard players was previously with one of the finest of 70's progressives: Carpe Diem. Many current bands could certainly learn a lot from Step Ahead, not least in the vocal department! As a bonus this CD includes demo and live recordings from a year after, offering a more in depth insight to Step Ahead's music. And also, this means you get two versions of their Steve Hackett-like masterpiece Heaven - oh, for an album of this sort of thing!From my Musea reviews feature in Audion magazine #24 (Feb. 1993)
