Richard Dorfmeister vs. Madrid De Los Austrias - Grand Slam FLAC download

Richard Dorfmeister and Madrid de los Austrias offer up a compilation of their remixes and a few tracks off of their own EPs. Can one tell which is which? Not really. Their take on Zero 7's "In the Waiting Line" has a funk-inspired groove, making the track much more upbeat. The funk continues on "Boogie No More," which is essentially a remix of the disco classic "Boogie, Oogie, Oogie." But both the funk and disco infect "Valldemossa (Edson Arantes Do Nascimento Pele Mix)," which throws in some subtle Latin percussion and vocal samples. Their take on Willie Bobo's "Spanish Grease" has the Latin funk thing down pat, but the funk doesn't work as well on Koop's "Relaxin At Club F****n," perhaps because the original still stands stronger. And, indeed, after a while, the funk starts sounding homogenous: their mix of Pressure Drop's "Back 2 Back" mentally blends into their own "Make Dis Real." But they make a house-wide turn on "Schnitz" and again on Groove Armada's "My Friend." And their own "On the Moon Maybe" is a lovely deep house ditty, with jazz flourishes to smooth the re-entry to earth. While the album as a whole might not be a grand slam, Dorfmeister and the MDLA boys know how to serve up an ace once in a while.
