Powder played Joey's Riot during her two hour main stage set at Dekmantel last weekend. It was a real high point of an incredible set. This track will be great forever.

Where are they hiding is the standout for me on this one..Joey ya legend !!

Classic Joey Beltram 12"."Joey's Riot" my favorite on this 12" with its driving rhythm, bleep rift, then leading to the tougher synth section, track is hypnotic and draws you right in. Big tune back in its day and a bit of a classic.

Uses a sample made famous by Cabaret Voltaire's 'Yashar' (in fact, this might be a sample from that track as the pitch of the sample is identical). It was originally from an episode of 'The Outer Limits', I believe. Tbh, this is one of those tracks which actually reminds me of the influence Cabaret Voltaire had on late 80s dance.

'Joey's Riot' is used as the introduction to DJ Tanith's mix on Universe 1992: Mission Accomplished double cassette

Does anyone know what drum machine used on this track? I can hear same sounds on many tracks that Joey composed early 90's.
Braswyn
Actually found out that it was an MPC60. Mundo Muzique mentions it in this interview http://daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/2014/05/key-tracks-mundo-muzique-on-mentasm

I think he was using an Emu drum machine - SP12 or SP1200
Porgisk
could be sounds from a sampler, so that could be anything ;) ,or a combination

Mmm... I don't think so. The hi-hat is sharper than 909 and clap sounds totally different. I guess it is old casio maschine or roland something. Anyway, thanks for reply.

"Joey's Riot". An absolute monster of a track. Deep, hallucinatory techno and one that no self-respecting DJ can possibly do without. One of Joey Beltram's best ever tracks, a stone-cold classic. The other side is pretty good too ! "Where Are They Hiding" is a Frankie Bones/Joey Beltram co-production and while not up to "Joey's Riot" standard, isn't that far off. With a vibe similar to Beltram's LOST ENTITY and REVELATION's "Synth It", "Where Are They Hiding" makes this 12" utterly unmissable !

What a fantastic 12". Joey had the 'GOLDEN TOUCH' back in the early 90's. JOEY'S RIOT is a classic, complete with KRAFTWERK samples. But the track for me is WHERE ARE THEY HIDING. Produced by JOEY BELTRAM and FRANKIE BONES. Has some movie sample in it with some wicked breakbeats and a very powerfull bassline. Still a floor filler today... If you love Joey's early stuff, this is a must have.

This track was a part of the turning point of the rave scene into the more darker side of techno, yet it maintained the original qualities of the scene, i.e. it was very original in it's sound and aimed for the underground. I must say the first few bars at the beginning sum up the whole track - a total riot of a tune, yet at the same time chock-a-block with seminal samples. The B-side (Where Are They Hiding) is also an awesome techno track, totally unforgettable. Look also for Technical Onslaught, another Beltram production. Many thanks to TEKNONUTTER for informing me of the origin of many of the samples used in these original rave tracks.

I can't believe this release hasn't had any comments yet. All of Joey Beltram's early releases including the seminal Energy Flash & Second Phase (with Mundo Muzique) are legendary, but this for me is another defining moment for Joey Beltram & the history of techno. It has that trademark hypnotic feeling which really gets you in a state of mind, that washes over you. Whenever this tune comes on it makes me rush - 14 years later without drugs, I can't express how much I love this tune. Musically it is simple but works ever so well. Penetrating sinister bleeps and snitches of Kraftwerk samples, with a distant sounding eerie one note string in the background accompanied by a thumping 4/4 groove and the darkest, warped electronic bassline which appears about a third of the way through really sending shivers down the recipients spine. Pure ear candy of the darkest variety pressed on plastic. A true underground techno classic from New York, appreciated worldwide.
