An outstanding album. You really do get a feel for a modern ambient interpretation on 1920-30s ballroom and seaside fanfare music. The last track almost has an additional flavour of John Barry's Raise the Titanic Soundtrack. Also the first track, We Cannot Escape the Past, is the very first track used for Room 237. In regards to those critiquing the covers look and feel. This is an edgy album with an edgy feel to it. If anything, the album cover plays to that spectrum...

I agree with BABYDIDDY's review. This is endlessly layered, arcane and mysterious music. But the imagery associated with V/Vm and the Caretaker is obnoxious and horridly disconnected from *most* of the music. A shame ... and I wonder why they choose to present themselves in this way. I feel that they would have more people purchasing their records if folks weren't repelled by this initial encounter. With such an abundance of music available these days, it's easy to write-off a label if one doesn't find it attractive ... and can just move on to the next.

absolutely beautiful and amazingly eerie ambient ballroom soundscapes make this THE definitive ambient album I have ever heard. Strikingly original and captivating from start to finish. Not what you'd expect from the V/VM camp at all and this should be a part of any decerning electronica fan's collection. 100%

Just as V/VM seem to have got to a point where only they haven't started to think putting Russ Abbot through the blender is funny and makes great music, they come out with this! This ranks with the KLF's "Space" LP as one of the best ambient records of all time, using as source material an old box of ballroom dance records they somehow obtained from somewhere. Its a shame that such a great work has been sadly neglected due to a couple of pig masks and some charity shop vinyl.
