Mr.Champions
This sees Pip Pyle (drums, keyboards, vocals) together again with John Greaves (vocals, bass, keyboards) - they worked together back in the days of National Health. And then there's one Philippe-Marcel Iung (guitars, guimbarde, voice, organ, harmonica, etc.), a mystery character who seems to be the magical ingredient. The recordings date from 1997-99, and cover a wide gamut of styles, all largely in the field between "Canterbury" and RIO, brash fusions that clash and shatter, side-steps from the old "classic" Captain Beefheart sound crossed with the most modern use of angular fusions, digital effects processing and total freedom in musical creativity. It's one of those albums that constantly surprises and challenges.
